Von Schweikert loudspeakers, built on Albert Von Schweikert’s first principles of loudspeaker design.

Both VR models pair ceramic woofers and midranges with a beryllium tweeter and a rear-firing ribbon that recreates the ambience of the recording, for a wide sweet spot.
The VR.30, nicknamed the “Mini 7” for its resemblance to the ULTRA.7, uses three ceramic honeycomb woofers. The award-winning VR.50, formerly the VR-55 Mk II SE, uses dual 8.5-inch woofers and a tweeter from the ULTRA series.
Each can be built fully passive or with the optional Foundation Hybrid Bass System, an 800 W amplifier for the woofers that lets you place the speakers where they look and sound best.
The VR.30 is built in Von Schweikert’s triple-wall Quiet Cabinet, developed in 1994 with lab partners from Caltech: resin-bonded fiberboard, synthetic stone and a woven damping layer, about three inches thick in all.
The ULTRA.5, formerly the ULTRA 55, is a compact, full-range statement loudspeaker. Three autotransformers on its back panel adjust each frequency band, and its crossovers are hand-soldered point to point with Von Schweikert’s own Ultra wiring.
The ULTRA.7 is the newest ULTRA model. Its 94 dB sensitivity suits anything from moderate-power tube amplifiers to high-power solid-state designs, and it scales from the largest rooms to more typical spaces.
Both can add the optional Foundation Hybrid Bass System for more freedom in placement.
Awards include Stereophile Recommended Component, Class A (2021) for the ULTRA.5, and Best of Show at AXPONA 2022, Pacific Audio Fest 2022 and Capital Audio Fest 2021 for the ULTRA.7.

What is the Foundation Hybrid Bass System?
An optional 800 W amplifier that powers only the woofers. The full signal still passes through the speaker’s analog crossover, so the character of your own amplifier is kept, while the bass can be adjusted to suit the room without digital signal processing.
How do the VR and ULTRA series differ?
The VR series brings much of the ULTRA series’ performance to a more compact and affordable design; the VR.50, for example, uses a beryllium tweeter from the ULTRA series. The ULTRA models add individual controls for each frequency band.
